Punjab is situated in the "Northwest Region" of India and shares an international border with Pakistan while in India its borders with Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The word Punjab consists of two words: "Panj"; (five) and "Aab"; (water) means “land of five rivers”. Punjab is the second largest wheat-producing state and has five rivers in its soil, which is why it is also called "India's Wheat Bowl". It is the birthplace of Sikhism and the site of the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs. Punjab is also a major industrial and commercial centre, with Chandigarh as its capital.
