Though it is important to study the technical parameters of a solar panel, the foremost step is to study about the fundamental aspects of the solar panel. Installing a solar system involves a huge amount of investment and it is a lifetime decision for your property. It is therefore, important to think on all lines. Metrics such as efficiency, warranty, temperature coefficient and durability will go a long way in deciding the number of panels required and the vendor, which will in turn determine the total capital expenditure.
Let’s check out a few leading solar panel brands in India, on the basis of the above mentioned factors.
The efficiency of a solar panel is calculated by the amount of sunlight it converts into electricity per unit of area. If a solar panel is more efficient the overall efficiency of the rooftop solar system also increases. Efficiency of panels play a major role in the effective working of the whole solar system and hence prudence must be applied while choosing the same. A more efficient solar panel results in lesser number of panels to be installed and hence will entail less capital outflow.
Tier 1 Chinese players like Trina Solar announced average efficiency of 17.8% for its industrially produced P-type monocrystalline cells while SunPower boasts of achieving new 24.1% solar panel efficiency record.
How to calculate efficiency of solar panel -
In below image, we have given formula about how can you calculate an efficiency solar module?
Here, we are taking an example of Loom Solar 350 Watt Mono Panel,
Choosing a solar panel based on warranty is important as many companies might not be around to honour their promise later. The solar companies are facing constant challenge in the form of declining prices of products and many of the smaller players are finding it difficult to sustain. Solar panels are a long-term investment and customers want to work with a bankable partners, hence warranty plays an important role in determining who will be the solar panel seller.
While sunlight is important for the proper functioning of solar panels very high temperatures can lead to degradation. Temperature coefficient is measured as the effect of high temperatures on functioning of solar panels. The lower the temperature coefficient, the better.
Let's know about temperature coefficient,
The durability of a panel is estimated by its strength to endure heavy rains, hailstorms, high winds, excessive pressure, etc. Solar Panels in different countries undergo different stress test under varied environment conditions and external pressure. These panels are then given ratings by rating agencies in order for customers to compare and choose from.

Generally, there are two types of wires in the market, such as
In our ecosystem, we use two types of appliances, AC Appliances and DC Appliances. AC Appliances work on 230V AC current whereas DC Appliances work on 12V, 24V, and 48V.
So, let’s understand what is the difference between AC Wire & DC Wire?
Now, we come to the main point – A Solar Wire!
A Solar Panel is a collection of solar cells that is encapsulated with tempered glass and an aluminum frame. It converts free sunlight into usable electricity. Electricity is generated in the form of DC Current and we store this power in a battery bank. Now, why do people also call it a solar wire? Because solar panel output is DC current.
Here we will give you a few tips to choose the best wire while you go shopping as it is very difficult to identify the best wire for your home. These tips will help to decide the best wire brands, such as
#1. Insulation
Double Insulation, helps it to work under high temperature and provides more safety.
DC Wire is double-coated whereas AC wire is single coated. It is XLPO, flame retardant, halogen-free, and electron-beam cross-linked. This is insulated by a plastic cover for extra safety. It also works at high temperatures.
#2. Tinned Copper
A wire should be made up of tinned copper. A tinned copper wire is Zinc-coated which protects it from rust and other environmental hazards. It looks like an Aluminum wire, but it is just coated with a Zinc layer.
#3. Current Capacity
A wire should have the appropriate capacity, otherwise it will burn and cause damage to all wiring connections and appliances.
#4. Standards
DC Wire should be UV (Ultra Violet) because it is used outdoors in Solar Panels. It is TUV & MNRE Certified for solar panel installation.
#5. Pricing
Solar Wire pricing depends on Brands, Manufacturers, Quantity, and Quality. Below are the price of solar wire:
Thumb rule is Wire capacity = Load / 5
For example, if we install a 3kW solar system, then we can calculate like this:
The output of 3kW Solar System is ~27 Amp, because of 3 (rows) * 3 (columns) panels connected in parallel and series. Power always increases in Parallel connection and Voltage always increases in series connection. Generally, in the off-grid solar system, we need the maximum power, but in the on-grid solar system, we need the maximum voltage.
~5.4 sq. mm = 27 Amp/ 5
We can use the nearest wire capacity which is available in the market.
Use of multi meter, here we will explain with the help of the below video:

]]>Lithium batteries have completely revolutionized the portable electronics market and are finding increasing application in the electronic, solar, mobile phones, medical equipment, power backups, and EV markets. These batteries have high energy density and the technology is witnessing significant cost reductions.
Prior to lithium batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries were prevalent. However, cadmium is a hazardous material, and the batteries have a high self-discharge rate. Lead- acid batteries were also not successful due to their dependence on hazardous metal lead and their low energy density.
2 times battery life, consumes 50% less space, needs no maintenance & takes 60% less recharge time
The price of lithium batteries have declined by more than 80% in the last decade. According to new analysis from Guide house Insights, lithium-ion cell prices will further fall by more than 40%. According to a report published by IHS Market, the average cost of lithium-ion batteries will fall to $100/kWh in 2024. Rapid growth in scale, increased application in EVs and growing manufacturing capacity globally shall lead to this price decline. The price of a lithium battery is measured in kWh. At present the price of 1 kWh battery is 25,000 which comes in 80 Ah /12.8 Volt ratings.
Lead acid batteries are very heavy and bulky. They are not ideal for fast charging as they overheat at the time of charge. Its short typical cycle life ranges from 300 to 500 cycles. However, they are easily available in the market and are known for their reliability.
VRLA or a valve-regulated lead-acid battery is also known as sealed lead-acid (SLA) battery. These batteries are maintenance free and do not require electrolyte or water. VRLA batteries are used in telecom cells as well as UPS replacement batteries, and in emergency lighting and other applications.
Lithium battery is light-weight and has high energy density and electrochemical potential. Lithium-ion is a low maintenance battery and the self-discharge is also less.
Lithium batteries are gaining rapid momentum as they are finding increased application in electric vehicles and for power backups in renewable energy systems. Lithium batteries can also be used in cars, homes UPS, toys and remote controls.
The main advantage of lithium batteries is its porta They are lightweight weighing about 12 kg and can be easily carried anywhere. They weigh nearly 25% of a typical lead-acid battery.
Lithium batteries can charge maximum within 2 to 4 hours whereas lead acid batteries generally take 10 hours charge time. Fast charging is the need of the hour in today’s fast-moving world.
Lithium batteries have a life of over 10 years on average. They can handle more than 2000 times of charge-discharge cycles. For lead acid batteries, it is low about 1500 times life cycle.
It is safe from child. All positive and negative terminals are connected under plug-in-play connecting socket. That's why it doesn't any spark in time of connecting battery to inverter connection.
We can install it as like refrigerator, tv, or any decorative items.
Lithium batteries are finding increasing application in emerging technologies. Lithium batteries are more efficient and charge faster when compared to lead-acid batteries. it has a longer lifespan and higher efficiency and provides reliable, stable, long-lasting power. That is why this technology is gaining popularity in power backup systems using solar energy and in electric vehicles. Though lithium batteries are much more expensive up front, they are maintenance-free and have a longer lifespan when compared to lead-acid batteries. It is expected that the cost of lithium batteries will be at par with lead acid batteries in the next 2-3 years.
Lithium Battery for Electric Vehicles
Given their high energy density ratio and good high-temperature performance, lithium batteries are ideal to be used in electric vehicles. They are also lightweight which helps in reducing the overall weight of the automobile. Lithium batteries also have a low self-discharge rate, which means that they are better when compared to other batteries at holding a full charge over time. All these features make lithium batteries best suited for electric cycles, cars as well as motor cycles.
The market for lithium-ion batteries in India is expected to grow at a CAGR of 34. 8% during the period of 2019 – 2024. Electric vehicle and energy storage systems in both commercial and residential applications should drive future growth for the lithium-ion battery market in India. Other applications such as solar power plants, military, telecom, power tools, etc. also account for the large lithium-ion battery applications in India. The EV market is set to explode in India and the government has also undertaken various initiatives to promote electric vehicles in the country.
1. Expensive – Though the cost of lithium-ion batteries is constantly falling, it is still higher than that of Nickel-cadmium cells. However, given its large number of applications, progress is being made towards improving the technology and reducing cost.
2. Protection against high temperature – Care is to be taken when charging lithium-ion batteries as they are sensitive to high temperatures. They require protection from being overcharged and discharged too far. Excessive heat causes faster degradation of these batteries.
3. Natural Degradation – Lithium batteries suffer from aging. An average battery can withstand 500 – 1000 charge-discharge cycles. These batteries hence need to be replaced from time to time and can become a headache if embedded in the equipment. Storage in a cool place at 40% charge reduces the aging effect.
4. Hazardous when transported – We have already discussed that a lithium-ion battery is sensitive to high temperatures. Some say that these can even explode when overcharged/ overheated. Hence many airlines put a limit on the number of batteries a passenger can carry. When shipped in larger quantities, transportation by water is advisable.
5. Low on maintenance – Lithium-ion batteries do not require any maintenance to ensure their performance. Few other types of batteries like nickel-cadmium cells require discharge to prevent memory effect.

The two factors that have made Indians reluctant in buying an electric car are its price and safety concerns. India is a price-sensitive market and hence car companies are trying their best to introduce cars that do not pinch the buyer. The price of an electric car seems high because of the high import prices of raw materials and batteries. If we can domestically master the production the prices will go down effectively. Other concerns around EVs include high upfront costs, range anxiety, and long refuelling time.

A good mounting structure can not only bear the weight of solar modules, but can also withstand extreme weather conditions like storms and floods. A variety of materials ranging from wood to polymers have been used to create strong and durable mounting structures for solar panels. Stainless steel has been the popular choice in most cases. Given the plant location and life cycle, stainless steel has traditionally been the most cost-effective option. However, recent trends show an increased utilization of aluminum in hot dip galvanised state along with steel for better protection against rust formation.
Primarily, there are two types of mounting structures depending on the tilt of solar panels. Fixed tilt structures are installed at a fixed angle linked to the latitude of the place, facing south in the northern hemisphere. Seasonal tilt structures can be adjusted seasonally allowing panels to capture optimum sunlight. While most solar plants have fixed or seasonal tilt structures, many installations also use tracker solutions to change the orientation of solar panel as per the season and time of day to optimum energy. However, the high additional upfront costs associated with trackers have somewhat limited their uptake. Technology innovations in the mounting structure space are focused on changing the structure to optimize costs. For instance, mounting structures with rails provide durability and support to modules while rail-less mounting structures can reduce the installations cost to some extent owing to low labour requirement.
Mounting structure design varies in different solar plants based on the project’s location, application, terrain and environment considerations. Thus, different mounting structures are used for ground-mounted, rooftop, canal-top and floating solar plants. Even among ground-mounted plants, the design of mounting structures can differ on the basis of land technology, soil type and other weather-related parameters. The complexity increases in rooftop solar plants as rooftops can be flat, inclined or corrugated, made of concrete construction or metal shed.
The mounting structure market is a highly fragmented market with over 60 suppliers of solar mounting structures active in the Indian market as of end 2018-19. According to Mercom India, the 10 leading mounting structure companies in India accounted for 65 per cent of the total market share in 2018-19, while 50 or sol suppliers accounted for remaining 35 per cent. Of the 10 leading companies, three companies shipped over 500 MW of products while two shipped about 1 GW of mounting structure.
With unprecedented growth witnessed in the solar power segment, the major of the steel giants around the world have started supplying mounting structures. JSW Steel Coated Products Limited is one such example. A 100 per cent subsidiary of JSW Steel, it is an established name in the solar mounting structure space. Pennar Industries, a market leader in the solar mounting structure business, also has steel products division. The company derives over 30 per cent of its business from the solar mounting structure division. SNS Corporation and Ganges International are two other leading players in the mounting structure space. Other large players in the mounting structure space Include Tata International, Jakson, Loom Solar, Neuvosol, Metalkraft, Strolar, and Solar Mounting System Solutions.
As per industry estimates, module mounting structures account for 9-15 per cent of the total cost of a solar power plant, depending on the size of the plant. In smaller plants, mounting structures make up about 9 per cent of the total project cost, while their share increase on large plants. Hence, module mounting structures can cost anywhere between Rs 3. 60 per Wp and Rs 6 per Wp for a 1 MW solar power plant of Rs 40 million.
Given the rapid increase in solar power deployment across all applications, there is an incremental demand for related equipment at cost-effective prices. Thus, the market for mounting structures is also expected to expand in the coming years. In fact, the rooftop solar segment is likely to reach a market size of Rs 40 billion – Rs 140 billion by the end of 2024-25.
In sum, the demand for mounting structures of all types and sizes is set to witness a surge. That said, a high degree of innovation will be required, both in structural design and materials used, to make mounting structures available at cost-competitive prices.
Let's take a look here is the list of top 10 leading mounting structure companies in India.

]]>For better understanding, we collect different types of opinion on this topic, so let's understand...
Rajesh Kumar, who is a resident of the district Garhwa (गढवा) of Jharkhand state, says that we only get electricity for 3 to 4 hours during summer time. Another consumer, who hails from district Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh says that an electric transformer was burnt in his village 2 days ago, due to which electricity was not available for many days and a problem has also arisen from a resident of Bangalore, Karnataka that they have already battery which gives only 1 to 2 hours backup, so what should be done.
Therefore, after reading all this, you must have realized the main problem. The problem for every other person is how to use the necessary electrical equipment such as fans, bulbs, mobile charging, water pumps, etc. So the only solution to all problems is power backup storage. That is, in the absence of electricity, electrical devices can be operated with the help of a battery bank.
So in this blog, we will talk in-depth about every information related to the solution to this problem, which will be very helpful in buying, maintaining and replacing a battery.
If a battery is used in your home, is your battery giving a good backup or are you thinking of buying a new battery? So, here we will tell you some basic checklist, which is very important to keep in mind while purchasing the battery. All the necessary points are mentioned below:-
There are three types of batteries available in the market such as, Lead Acid, Solar Battery, and Lithium Battery. Lead Acid & Solar Battery are easily available in the online and offline market. You should know the advantage and disadvantages of both types of battery, and then decide which battery your pocket allows & also good for your home.
If we run the battery at 100% home load then the average backup time of any battery is 4-5 hours. The simple formula for identifying the capacity of a battery is Battery's Capacity * Volt / Home Loads.
For example, if we have a 150Ah battery in my house, then the total storage of battery is 150Ah * 12V = 1800Watts. You should also know about the efficiency of the battery is up to 70%.
That means we can use 1800 Watts * 70% = ~1300 Watts. If I run 300 Watts loads (such as fans, lights, coolers, refrigerator, etc.), then our battery will run 4 to 5 hours.
After a backup time, charging time is also the most important factor that we should know of any battery. At present, the average Charging time of a battery is almost 9 to 10 hours. In the future, the charging time will be hardly 3 to 4 hours. So, you need a very sufficient solar panel and solar inverter to charge the battery.
If we talk about the warranty available on solar batteries, then two options available in the market, 3 years and 5 years. In both types of warranties, the company offers replacement on the battery.
The battery needs maintenance from time to time so that the power backup and life of the battery is prolonged. The battery has a water level indicator so that we can easily find the water level of the battery. Generally, we refill battery water (acid) once or twice a year. If we do not refill the battery water, the battery cells will harden and the battery will stop working.
The price of the battery also depends on the capacity of the battery and the years of warranty service on the battery. We know very well that national and local manufactures also manufacture batteries, but how do we know that we are paying the right amount for the right product. If you think of a long time investment in a battery, then you should thoroughly verify the manufacture of the battery. So, now you can go to the online or offline store of Loom Solar and compare the prices of different brand battery manufacturers.
1. Lead Acid: Lead acid batteries are the most common solar batteries. They have electrodes which are grids of metallic lead containing lead oxides. The composition, that created by lead oxides, helps in charging & discharging this battery.
2. Solar Battery: The solar battery is a very important part of the solar system. Because the capacity of the solar system is measured by the battery power. Solar battery works as a power bank in a solar system. Solar batteries use three electrodes, while normal batteries use only two electrodes. Solar batteries are costly compared to normal batteries, but they are very useful for maintenance and long-lasting. The normal lifespan of solar batteries is also 5 to 15 years.
3. Lithium Battery: In this type of battery, electrodes are made of lightweight lithium and carbon. & Lithium batteries are made up of several cells. Lithium batteries can be used comfortably in place of lead-acid batteries because the charging voltages of both are almost the same.
There are many differences between normal batteries & solar batteries, some of the basic fundamental differences are as follows:
The solar energy sector is very large. So the market divides it into smaller parts and there are many different brands which deal in different parts.

]]>Solar Charge Controller is an electronic device which controls the variation of the power produced from Solar Panel to charge the battery as well as run DC Load.
It is basically a voltage and/or current regulator to keep batteries from overcharging. It regulates the voltage and current coming from the solar panels going to the battery. Most 12 volt panels put out about 16 to 18 volts, so if there is no regulation the batteries will be damaged overcharging.
It is used in the solar applications and is also called solar battery charger. Its function is to regulate the voltage and current from the solar arrays to the battery in order to preventing overcharging and also over discharging.
There are two types of solar charge controllers. They are:
PWM Solar Charge Controller: PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) Solar Charge Controller is an electronic device which works to match the voltage of panel to voltage of battery. It pulls down the panel’s output voltage in doing so.
MPPT Solar Charge Controller: An MPPT Controller, or Maximum Power Point Tracker is an electronic DC to DC converter that optimizes the match between the solar array (PV panels) and the battery bank. They convert a higher voltage DC output from solar panels down to the lower voltage needed to charge batteries and convert extra voltage of panel into current which increases the output from solar system.
Here, we give you a list of the best Solar charge controllers 2023 India. Click on each of the recommended top 10 solar battery chargers to read their detailed reviews, and get more information on the best solar charge controllers in India.

Solar Inverter becomes the point of distribution of appropriate electricity supply (Conversion of DC supply from panels to suitable capacity to charge batteries faster) for the household or other commercial appliances. More importantly, this plays an important role in having the right load management and this depends upon the technology. Like in market there are old and new technologies available. We must look at most advanced solar inverter technology i.e. MPPT - Maximum Power Point Tracking.
MPPT- Maximum Power Point Output, helps in maximum energy extraction despite the power fluctuations that the solar panels shall generate through the day as that varies from day part to day part.
As MPPT checks the output of solar panels it compares, corrects and prioritizes the need of max voltage and current needed for battery charging which it does efficiently. As soon the charging gets completed it supports the supply to other basic household or commercial needs.
